Asparagus root
Name of Drug
Asparagi rhizoma, asparagus root.
Composition of Drug
Asparagus root consists of the rhizome of Asparagus officinalis L. [Fam. Liliaceae], as well as its preparations in effective dosage. The rhizome contains saponins.
Uses
Irrigation therapy for inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract and for prevention of kidney stones.
Contraindications
Inflammatory kidney diseases.
Note:No irrigation therapy if edema exists because of functional heart or kidney disorders.
Side Effects
In rare cases, allergic skin reactions.
Interactions with Other Drugs
None known.
Dosage
Unless otherwise prescribed:
Daily dosage:
45 - 60 g of rhizome;
equivalent preparations.
Mode of Administration
Cut rhizome for teas, as well as other galenical preparations for internal use.
Note:Irrigation therapy:
Be sure to provide adequate fluids.
Actions
Animal experiments indicate a diuretic effect.
