Where is Headed North American Mobile?

North American Mobile

North American revenues from mobile content and applications will total $10 billion in 2015, according to a new white paper from Juniper Research.

Mobile Revenues to More than Double

Juniper’s $10 billion estimate for total North American mobile content and applications revenue by 2015 made in “North America – Land of Wireless Opportunities” predicts 150% growth from $4 billion in mobile content/apps revenue reported in 2009.

Games, Infotainment Become Key Drivers

Juniper divides the mobile revenue stream into seven categories: infotainment, UGC (user-generated content), mobile TV, music, games, adult, and gambling. In 2009, Juniper recorded essentially no mobile gambling revenue and minimal mobile adult and UGC revenue. Mobile TV accounted for the largest portion of total revenue, trailed closely by music and games, with infotainment lagging behind (but ahead of the other three categories).

However, in 2015, Juniper forecasts games will be the largest North American mobile revenue category, followed closely by infotainment. Mobile TV will come in third, trailed by UGC and music, with solid growth in adult revenue and gambling showing slow improvement. Juniper credits North American smartphone growth with helping to increase mobile content revenues on the continent.
