Alfalfa is widely grown throughout the world as forage for cattle, and is most often harvested as hay, but Cyvex uses it for protein. Cyvex’s AlfaPro alfalfa juice protein concentrate is made from young alfalfa plants, free of pesticides, fertilizers and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). “In addition to containing more than 50-percent concentrated protein, Cyvex’s Alfapro provides a rich nutritional source of several essential vitamins, minerals and other nutritionally beneficial properties,” said Matt Phillips, president of Cyvex Nutrition. Those nutrients include vitamins B1, B2, B6, B7 and vitamin E; essential minerals, including potassium, magnesium and calcium; 18 amino acids; lutein; zeaxanthin; and chlorophyll.

Angela Dorsey-Kockler, RD, product manager, BI Nutraceuticals, added, “Alfalfa has been purported to act as an anticholesterolemic and antiglycemic agent; however, more research is needed in these areas.”
