Alleviating Pain and Adverse Side Effects

Continued from Yesterday:

Oral and Topical Use of Supplements and Botanicals to Help Alleviate Pain and Adverse Side Effects

Low Dog discusses how an herbalist might formulate a specific pain remedy for a patient.

Next, an adaptogen may be added.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) has been used for arthritis in India and the Middle East for centuries, especially for pain with anxiety and insomnia. Its steroidal lactone withanolides have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. For pain with depression, rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea) might be selected. For a man with arthritis and erectile dysfunction, Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng) or American ginseng (P. quinquefolius) might be most beneficial.
