Various Uses of Fenugreek

Fenugreek May Boost Male Libido

A new study suggests that fenugreek may increase libido in men.

Fenugreek is native to India and northern Africa. The leaves and seeds, which mature in long pods, are used to prepare extracts and powders for medicinal use.

The recent study included 60 healthy men who were between the ages of 25 and 52. None of them had erectile dysfunction at the start of the trial. They were randomly assigned to receive either 600 milligrams of fenugreek (Testofen®) or placebo daily for six weeks. The men answered questions about their sex drive and quality of life.

The researchers found that fenugreek improved libido and quality of sexual performance compared to placebo. Additionally, fenugreek was associated with improvements in overall quality of life, but it did not affect mood or sleep. Serum prolactin and testosterone levels remained within the normal range.

The authors concluded that fenugreek "demonstrated a significant positive effect on physiological aspects of libido and may assist to maintain normal healthy testosterone levels."
However, more research is needed to confirm these findings.
