What Heals Mouth Ulcers?

Mouth ulcers or Athmus ulcers are those ulcers you get in the mouth appearing on the cheeks, gums, lips or the tongue. They are related to stress and the over consumption of acid foods. In many cases, the treatment for preventing the outbreak of mouth ulcers is the same as for cold sores. Once a mouth ulcers is present, some natural remedies can help reduce the discomfort and speed healing.

Vitamin E

Placing Vitamin E oil topically on the ulcer has been shown to cut the healing time by 50%. You can use a standard 400 IU Vitamin E gel capsule for this. Just cut it open and put the Vitamin E oil directly on the ulcer. Vitamin E oil also comes in a one-ounce bottle. Use a q-tip to dab the oil onto the mouth ulcer.

Calendula

This is a homeopathic preparation made from the wild marigold. This can be placed directly on the mouth ulcer or you can make a mouth rinse by combining 25 drops of calendula and 2 ounces of water. Take 1 tablespoon and swish for 60 seconds before swallowing. Do this 4 times a day. Note: Make sure when you buy calendula (found in most health food stores) that it is in a water base. Most homeopathic remedies come in an alcohol base unless otherwise specifies. The alcohol would make the ulcer sting!
