Chromium may Reduce Hunger and Food Intake

Chromium may Reduce Hunger and Food Intake

Chromax® chromium picolinate was shown to significantly reduce hunger and food intake in a recent human study published in Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics.

Researchers at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana compared the effects of Chromax® to placebo in 42 overweight adult women who reported craving carbohydrates. During the eight-week-long study, participants were randomly assigned to receive either 1,000 micrograms of chromium or a matching placebo. Participants were allowed to eat any type and amount of food during the study.

Food intake was measured at the research center's eating laboratory before the study, after one week of treatment and again at the end of the study.

The authors found that Chromax® reduced hunger by 24 percent and decreased food intake by 25 percent. It was also shown to reduce cravings for high-fat foods in non-diabetic, overweight adult women.

"The participants who received chromium picolinate reduced their caloric intake by an average of 365 calories per day between their baseline and final visit," said Dr. Steve Anton, lead author of the study. "Not only are these results clinically significant, it is also noteworthy that participants receiving chromium picolinate did not report increased hunger levels despite significantly reducing their food intake."
