Stopping Radiation

• Alpha particles (protons and neutrons) can be stopped by skin or a sheet of paper.
• Beta particles (electrons) can be stopped by a quarter-inch-thick piece of aluminum or acrylic.
• Gamma particles (high-energy photons) can be stopped by thick lead membranes.
